THE STORY
MANDELAY PROJECT began during the pandemic.
When singer and actress Anne Bontemps and Brazilian pianist Wellington Barros started looking for a new musical adventure, they discovered an unexpected common ground: the world of
Brecht & Weill.
Rehearsals began immediately with great enthusiasm. After their first concerts as the duo Barros.Bontemps, a presenter encouraged them to return as a quartet — the starting point of MANDELAY PROJECT.
Wellington brought in his brother Fernando de Almeida Barros on bass and composer duties, and together with drummer Marcos Della Rocha, the quartet was born.
Five years later, we proudly continue our journey as a niche project between theatre, Brazilian soul and musical storytelling - a musical language that feels especially at home on theatre stages and in artistic spaces that welcome depth, poetry and bold musical dialogue.
